Starting Over with “Stupidity” — The Must-See Solo Art Exhibition by Sathit Kalawantavanich at 66

“The Wisdom of Stupidity” invites audiences to question conventional thinking through art that is playful, profound, and deeply sincere The Wisdom of Stupidity marks a major solo exhibition by Sathit Kalawantavanich, one of Thailand’s most legendary creative minds whose career has spanned the worlds of global advertising, graphic design, and visual culture — before courageously choosing to “start over” as an artist at the age of 66. Best known as the creative force behind the iconic design brand Propaganda and its globally beloved character Mr. P, whose products have been sold at international retailers including                     Paul Smith London, Sathit now turns to painting and sculpture under a philosophy he has embraced throughout his life: “We can do it because we still don’t know it’s impossible.” More than an art exhibition, The Wisdom of Stupidity is an invitation to embrace uncertainty, let go of perfection, and rediscover the freedom of creativity through the courage of “not knowing.”

Exhibition Highlights

Mr. P on Canvas

For the first time, the legendary character Mr. P is reimagined through fine art paintings on canvas. Far removed from its original product-design context, the series explores new emotions through expressive brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and layered moods. The 17 exclusive pieces reveal humor, mischief, vulnerability, and solitude — offering audiences a more intimate and human side of one of Thailand’s most iconic design characters.

The Power of “Tum” (Sculpture)

A limited-edition sculpture series that transforms the simple Thai word “Tum” (“to do”) into philosophical reflections on life. Through concepts such as working, making merit, acceptance, meditation, and giving, the sculptures embody Sathit’s belief that the act of “doing” is at the core of human existence. Minimal yet powerful in form, the works reflect a lifetime of experience distilled into simple visual language.

The New Characters

The exhibition also introduces three brand-new characters — B Betty, Space Dude, and Snail Kid — each showcasing Sathit’s unmistakable visual style through dramatic light, dimensional linework, and almost three-dimensional movement. Beneath their playful appearances lie subtle reflections on slowness, loneliness, dreams, imagination, and freedom.

Ultimately, The Wisdom of Stupidity reframes “age” and “not knowing” not as limitations, but as the beginning of creative liberation.
